Syed Shahnawaz Hussain is an Indian politician. He is a senior leader and spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was also part of the BJP's Central Election Committee.
Hussain served as a minister in the government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was the Minister of Textiles and the Minister of Civil Aviation. From February 2021 to August 2022, he was the Minister of Industries for the Government of Bihar.

Early Life and Education
Syed Shahnawaz Hussain was born on December 12, 1968. His parents are Syed Nasir Hussain and Nasima Khatoon. He was born in Supaul, Bihar, India. He studied engineering, earning a Diploma in Electronics. He got this from B.S.S.E., Supaul, and ITI, Pusa, Delhi.
Family Life
On December 12, 1994, he married Renu Hussain. They have two sons together.
Political Journey
Starting in Parliament
In 1999, Hussain was elected to the Lok Sabha. This is one of the two houses of the Indian Parliament. He represented the Kishanganj area. He became a Minister of State in the government. He handled different areas like food processing, youth affairs, and human resource development.
Becoming a Cabinet Minister
In 2001, he was given independent charge of the Ministry of Coal. This meant he was in charge of that ministry. Later in September 2001, he became a Cabinet Minister. He was given the Civil Aviation portfolio, which deals with air travel. At that time, he was the youngest Cabinet Minister ever in India. From 2003 to 2004, he was the Cabinet Minister for Textiles. People often called him 'The Original Youth leader'.
Returning to Parliament
Hussain did not win the general elections in 2004. However, he returned to the Lok Sabha in November 2006. He won a special election (called a by-election) for the Bhagalpur area in Bihar.
In 2006, he was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha. He worked on important committees. These included the Standing Committee on External Affairs. He also served on the Financial Committee on Estimates.
In 2009, he was re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from Bhagalpur. He continued to serve on various committees. These included committees on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice. He also worked on the Committee on Papers Laid on the Table and the Committee on Privileges.
Contributions and Recent Roles
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, he ran from Bhagalpur again. He lost by a small number of votes. He played a role in getting Bhagalpur included in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Smart Cities Scheme. Thanks to his efforts, the Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express train now stops at Naughachia Railway station.
On January 21, 2021, Hussain was elected to the Bihar Legislative Council. This is another important legislative body in Bihar. On February 9, 2021, he became a cabinet minister in the Bihar government. He served as the Minister of Industries for the Government of Bihar until August 2022.
