Synne Skouen, born on August 8, 1950, is a talented Norwegian composer and writer. She creates music and writes about it.

About Synne Skouen

Synne Skouen was born in Oslo, Norway. She loved music from a young age. She studied music composition in Vienna, Austria, learning from famous teachers like Alfred Uhl. She also learned about electronic music. Later, she continued her studies in Oslo and earned her degree in composition in 1976.

Her Career in Music and Media

Skouen also acted in a film called Reisen til havet in 1966. Her father, Arne Skouen, directed this movie. She was part of an experimental music group in Vienna called "Die Fremden."

From 1977 to 1986, Synne worked as an editor for a music magazine called Ballade. She also wrote about music for a newspaper. In 1993, she became the music director for Norway's main broadcasting company, NRK. She later became the Head of Culture there in 1999. In 2002, she was chosen to be the President of the Society of Norwegian Composers.

Important Music Projects

Synne Skouen has created many musical works for different events and groups. These include pieces for the Festival of North Norway and the Bergen International Festival. She also composed music for the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet and NRK.

She has written music for plays and movies too. One of her radio plays, Gull Eaters, which she wrote with Cecilie Løveid, won a special award. They received the Prix Italia Award for Best Drama in 1983.

In 2011, an album called Call-Notes was released, featuring her music. The next year, her piece Autumn Arias was performed for the first time at the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival. The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra played this piece.

In September 2017, her opera Ballerina had its first performance at the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. This opera is based on a play written by her father, Arne Skouen.
