Synne Skouen (born August 8, 1950) is a Norwegian composer and writer. She creates music for many different things, like films, plays, and concerts.

About Synne Skouen's Life and Music

Synne Skouen was born in Oslo, Norway. She loved music and decided to study it. She went to the Vienna Academy of Music and also the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. In 1976, she earned her degree in composition, which means she learned how to write music.

Early Career and Creative Work

When she was younger, Synne Skouen even acted in a film! In 1966, she appeared in Reisen til havet, a movie directed by her father, Arne Skouen. She also worked with a special music theater group in Vienna.

Later, she became an editor for a music magazine called Ballade. She also wrote about music for a newspaper. In 1993, she became the music director for a cultural channel at Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK). She even became the Head of Culture there in 1999. In 2002, she was chosen to be the President of the Society of Norwegian Composers. This shows how important she is in the world of Norwegian music.

Special Music Projects and Awards

Synne Skouen has been asked to create music for many big events and groups. These include the Festival of North Norway, the Bergen International Festival, and the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. She has also written music for plays and movies.

One of her radio plays, Gull Eaters, which she wrote with Cecilie Løveid, won a special award called the Prix Italia in 1983. This award was for the best drama.

In 2011, an album called Call-Notes was released, featuring her music. The next year, her piece Autumn Arias was performed for the first time at the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival.

In 2017, her opera Ballerina had its first performance at the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. An opera is like a play where the story is told through singing. This opera was based on a play written by her father, Arne Skouen.
