Syringa is a small place in Middlesex County, Virginia, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a settled area that doesn't have its own local government. Instead, it's managed by the county.

Syringa is located about 7.8 miles (12.6 km) east-southeast of Saluda. For many years, Syringa had its own post office. This post office helped people send and receive mail. However, it closed its doors on September 3, 1988.

Education in Syringa's Past

For many years, Syringa had its own school. This school was called Syringa High School. It served the students living in and around the community.

Syringa High School's History

Syringa High School was an important part of the community for a long time. It provided education for local teenagers. However, the school closed in 1950. This happened when a new, larger school was built. The new school was called Middlesex High School. It brought together students from several smaller communities.

The Freeshade Community Center

Even though Syringa High School closed, its building is still used today. The auditorium of the old school was built around 1936. This part of the building has been given a new life. It is now known as the Freeshade Community Center. Community centers are places where people can gather. They often host events, meetings, and activities for everyone in the area.
