Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages |
The TESOL International Association is a big group for teachers who teach English to people who speak other languages. TESOL stands for "Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages." It's the largest group of its kind in the world!
This organization helps teachers learn new ways to teach English. It was started in 1966 and has its main office in Alexandria, Virginia, in the United States.
What Does TESOL Do?
TESOL helps English teachers by:
- Sharing new ideas and teaching methods.
- Publishing special magazines called TESOL Quarterly and TESOL Journal. These magazines have articles written by experts.
- Holding special learning events called "TESOL Academies" in the summer. These are like workshops for teachers.
- Organizing a big meeting every year called an "annual convention." Teachers from all over the world come to share their experiences and learn from each other.
Who Are TESOL Members?
In 2018, TESOL had over 10,000 members from many different countries. It also works with more than 100 other groups that teach languages. When you count all the members from these partner groups, the TESOL family has about 44,000 people! This shows how many teachers are working together to help people learn English around the globe.
