TVARK facts for kids
TVARK is a cool British website that lets you explore thousands of videos and pictures from old TV shows. It's like a giant online museum for television! You can find clips of old TV programmes, advertisements, and even those short clips called "idents" that TV channels used to show between programmes. Most of the content is from the United Kingdom, but there are also some things from other TV stations around the world.
What is TVARK?
TVARK is a special website that keeps a huge collection of old TV moments. Imagine being able to watch how TV looked years ago, seeing commercials from when your parents were kids, or remembering the catchy tunes of old channel idents. That's what TVARK offers! It's a fantastic way to look back at the history of television.
How TVARK Started
TVARK began on 8 November 1998. It was first created by just one person as a fun hobby. Back then, the internet was very different; most people connected using something called "dial-up", which was much slower than today's internet. The website was originally called "Television Ark". Over the years, this hobby project grew bigger and bigger. It started to include many more clips from different years of British TV. Now, about 10 volunteers help to keep the website running and add new content.
TVARK's Big Break
In March 2017, the TVARK website had to close down for some important repairs. The people behind it said it would be back online by the end of 2017. However, fixing such a big collection of videos and images took a lot longer than expected! The website finally came back online at the beginning of 2020, much to the delight of its many fans. TVARK also has a Facebook page where they share new clips from their website every day, so you can always find something new to watch.
