This area is named after a special local bird, the Eastern Grass Owl, which has the scientific name Tyto capensis. The gallery is open to everyone and is run by the Hinchinbrook Shire Council. It always has new art shows, featuring both local artists and art from other places. There's also a shop where you can buy art, mostly made by talented artists from North Queensland.

A Look Back: The Gallery's Story
How the Gallery Started
Before the TYTO Regional Art Gallery, there was an older gallery called Gallery Hinchinbrook. It opened in June 1999. This first gallery was located in the same building as the TAFE college and the Hinchinbrook Shire Library in Ingham. The Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE owned the building. The local council and a group of volunteers, called the Friends of Gallery Hinchinbrook Association, helped manage it.
Building the New Gallery
The Queensland Government decided to invest in a big project for Ingham. They planned to spend $8 million on something called the "Our Town our Future - Ingham Cultural Complex." This project is now known as the Tyto Precinct. The government promised $4 million to help start the second part of this plan. Even though there were some delays, work on the Tyto Precinct began in 2010.
Opening the TYTO Regional Art Gallery
In March 2011, a brand new art gallery was ready! It was built especially for art and is located right in the TYTO Wetlands Precinct. This new gallery is officially called the TYTO Regional Art Gallery. The main exhibition space inside the gallery is named after John Coburn. He was a famous artist who was born right there in Ingham.
