Tadaaki Hirakawa (born May 1, 1979) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender and midfielder. Hirakawa is now the manager for J3 League club FC Ryukyu.

Tadaaki Hirakawa's Playing Career

Early Days and Joining Urawa Reds

Tadaaki Hirakawa was born in Shizuoka, Japan. After finishing his studies at University of Tsukuba, he joined the J1 League club Urawa Reds in 2002. He quickly became an important player for the team.

Becoming a Key Player

Hirakawa started as a right-side player. However, he soon became a regular player as a left-side midfielder. In 2003, his team, the Urawa Reds, won the 2003 J.League Cup for the first time ever!

Playing Different Positions

In 2004, another player named Alessandro Santos joined the Urawa Reds. This meant Hirakawa had to play in many different spots. He played in three different defense positions and also as a right-side midfielder. This showed how versatile he was.

Winning the J1 League and AFC Champions League

In 2006, Hirakawa became a regular right-side midfielder again. That year, the Urawa Reds won the J1 League title for the very first time in their history! In 2007, he switched back to being a left-side midfielder. This helped the Urawa Reds win the 2007 AFC Champions League, a huge championship for Asian clubs.

Hirakawa continued to play many matches in different midfield and defense roles. He played regularly as a right and left-side back in 2010. From 2012, he often played as a right-side midfielder. He retired from playing football at the end of the 2018 season.

Tadaaki Hirakawa's Manager Career

After a long and successful playing career, Tadaaki Hirakawa became a football manager. He took over as the manager for FC Ryukyu, a club that plays in the J3 League. He started this new role in 2025.
