Tafazzul Hussain Khan (died in 1868) was an important army officer during the 1857 Indian Rebellion. He was a Risaldar, which means he led a group of soldiers on horseback. The British in India gave him special titles: 'Captain' and 'Sardar Bahadur', because of his actions during the rebellion.

Who Was Tafazzul Hussain Khan?
Tafazzul Hussain Khan was the grandson of Bakshi Ghulam Haider. His father was Ghulam Mohammad Khan, who passed away in 1833.
His Family Connections
His mother was Umarun Nisan. She was the sister of Ghulam Askari. Ghulam Askari's daughter, Siddiqun Nisan, was a cousin of Tafazzul Hussain Khan. Siddiqun Nisan's daughter, Fayyazun Nisan, later married Qazi Mir Imdad Ali. This means Siddiqun Nisan was the grandmother of Hakim Syed Karam Husain.
Tafazzul Hussain Khan's Role in the 1857 Rebellion
Tafazzul Hussain Khan became a Risaldar (a leader of cavalry soldiers) in the army at Nagpur. This was when his father, Ghulam Mohammad Khan, was a 'Kamidan' or commandant in the army.
The Rebellion Begins
In May 1857, news of the revolt against the British reached Nagpur. Tafazzul Hussain Khan was an officer in one of the cavalry units. He chose to oppose the rebellion. He helped to protect many British women and children during this time.
Awards and Recognition
After the rebellion ended, the British began to reward those who had supported them. Tafazzul Hussain Khan was promoted to 'Captain' in the police force. He was also given the special title of 'Sardar Bahadur'. This was a military decoration given for bravery.
In 1859, he received more rewards. He was given land called a 'Jagir' in Farrukhnagar and Rewari, which are in the Gurgaon District. This land provided him with 6,000 rupees each year. He also received an extra 1,500 rupees as a gift. He moved to Rewari with his sons in 1859.
His Children
Tafazzul Hussain Khan had five sons:
- Shahabuddin Haider (who sadly died at 19 after falling from a horse in Raipur)
- Ghaziuddin Haider
- Ghyasuddin Haider
- Mohammad Sirajuddin Haider Khan
- Jalaluddin Haider Khan
He also had one daughter. She married a man named Qasim Husain. Their son, Yadgar Husain 'Fitna', became a famous Urdu poet.
