The Taifa of Morón (which means "faction" or "party" in Arabic) was a small Berber kingdom in what is now southern Spain. It existed during the Middle Ages, from about 1010 to 1066. This kingdom was one of many "taifas" that appeared after the powerful Caliphate of Córdoba broke apart.
In 1066, the Taifa of Morón was taken over by the larger and stronger Taifa of Seville. It remained under Seville's control until 1091.
Rulers of Morón
The Dammarid Family
The Taifa of Morón was ruled by a family called the Dammarids. These rulers were known as Emirs. An Emir is a type of prince or commander, often the leader of a small Islamic state.
Here are the Emirs who ruled Morón:
- Abu Tuziri al-Dammari: He was the first known ruler, from around 1010 to 1013 or 1014.
- Nuh: He ruled after Abu Tuziri, from 1013 or 1014 until 1041 or 1042.
- Muhammad: He took over in 1041 or 1042 and ruled until 1057.
- Manad: He was the last independent ruler, from 1057 until 1066, when Seville conquered Morón.
