Tainan County was a special area located in Southern Taiwan. Its name, "Tainan," simply means "Southern Taiwan." It was like a large region or district that existed for many years.

This county was officially created on January 7, 1946. It served as an important administrative area in Taiwan for over 60 years. Its capital city, where the main government offices were located, was Sinying.

What Happened to Tainan County?

Tainan County no longer exists as a separate county today. On December 25, 2010, it joined with the nearby Tainan City. Together, they formed a much larger area called a "Special Municipality." This new, bigger Tainan is now one of the most important cities in Taiwan.

This change helped to combine resources and make the region stronger. It's like two smaller towns merging to become one big city.

How Tainan County Was Organized

Before it merged, Tainan County was divided into several smaller parts. These parts helped manage the different communities and areas within the county.

  • County-controlled cities: These were larger towns that had their own local governments, similar to smaller cities.
  • Urban townships: These were areas with more people and buildings, often like busy towns.
  • Rural townships: These were areas with fewer people, often with more farms or natural landscapes.

This system helped the county government manage everything from schools to roads for all the people living there.
