Taiwan Province, People's Republic of China facts for kids
Taiwan (Chinese: 台湾; pinyin: Táiwān) is a place that the government of the People's Republic of China (PRC) says is one of its provinces. However, it is currently run by the government of the Republic of China (ROC). The main city and recognized capital of the ROC is Taipei City.
What is Taiwan Province?
The "Taiwan Province" is a name used by the People's Republic of China (PRC) government. They believe this area is part of their country. But, the land is actually controlled by the Republic of China (ROC) government.
This means there are two different ideas about who Taiwan belongs to. It's a complex situation in international politics.
Area of the Claimed Province
The "Taiwan Province" as claimed by the PRC does not include all the islands that the ROC controls. For example, it does not include Kinmen County or Lienchiang County.
This is because the PRC considers Kinmen and Lienchiang to be part of its Fujian Province. So, the claimed "Taiwan Province" only refers to the main island of Taiwan and some smaller islands around it.
