Takahiro Shibasaki's Football Journey
Takahiro Shibasaki was born in Yokosuka, Japan. He started his professional football career after finishing high school.
Early Career and First Clubs
In 2001, Shibasaki joined Tokyo Verdy, a club in Japan's top league, J1 League. He made his first appearance in 2002. However, it was tough for him to get regular playing time. Other goalkeepers like Daijiro Takakuwa and Yoshinari Takagi were often chosen instead.
In 2004, he moved to Yokohama FC, a team in the J2 League. Here, he also found it hard to become the main goalkeeper, as Takanori Sugeno was often preferred. In 2006, he joined FC Tokyo in the J1 League, but he didn't play any matches there because Yoichi Doi was the main goalkeeper.
Returning to Tokyo Verdy
Shibasaki went back to Tokyo Verdy in 2007. He still faced strong competition for the goalkeeper spot. Yoshinari Takagi was there, and then Yoichi Doi joined in 2008.
Things started to change for Shibasaki in 2011. Takagi left the team, and Doi got injured. This gave Shibasaki the chance to become the regular goalkeeper from May 2011. He played many games in 2011 and 2012. However, Doi returned from injury and took back the starting position in July 2012.
Loan Spell and Return
In 2013, Shibasaki went on loan to Yokohama FC. He played 13 matches for them. The team struggled to win games, and he eventually lost his starting spot to Junnosuke Schneider.
He returned to Tokyo Verdy in 2014. For a couple of years, he was mostly a substitute player, with Yuya Sato being the main goalkeeper. In 2016, Sato left the club. Shibasaki then competed with a new player, Ryota Suzuki, and played in 19 matches that season.
In 2017, Suzuki also left, and Shibasaki became the starting goalkeeper for Tokyo Verdy. He played in all 42 league matches that year, which was a big achievement! However, from 2018 onwards, he faced new competition from Naoto Kamifukumoto.
Recent Career Moves
In 2022, Takahiro Shibasaki joined SC Sagamihara. After playing there for a year, he moved to his current club, Kataller Toyama, in 2023. He continues his career as a professional goalkeeper.
