Chef Takashi's Journey
Early Restaurants and Awards
Takashi Yagihashi opened his first restaurant, Tribute, in 1996. It was in Detroit. Food critics loved it. The New York Times even called it one of the best restaurants around.
In 2003, Takashi won a big award. He was named "Best Chef: Midwest" by the James Beard Foundation. This is a very important award for chefs.
New Ventures and TV Shows
In 2005, Chef Yagihashi opened Okada in Las Vegas. He created a modern Japanese menu there. His French cooking skills influenced this menu. He later joined the Macy's culinary council. He also opened "Noodles by Takashi Yagihashi" inside Macy's in Chicago.
His own restaurant, "Takashi," opened in Chicago in December 2007. He also started a Japanese ramen restaurant called Slurping Turtle. The first Slurping Turtle opened in Chicago in November 2011. Another location opened in Ann Arbor, Michigan in April 2014.
Chef Yagihashi appeared on Iron Chef America in 2012. He also competed on Top Chef Masters (season 4) that same year. He was even featured on the cooking show Great Chefs.
Books and Recent Projects
In 2009, Takashi Yagihashi wrote a book. It was called Takashi's Noodles. He wrote it with Harris Salat.
His Chicago restaurant, "Takashi," closed in 2014. The Slurping Turtle in Chicago also closed in May 2019. However, the Ann Arbor Slurping Turtle is still open. A second location opened in Columbus, Ohio. Chef Yagihashi is no longer involved with Slurping Turtle since 2018.
His newest restaurant is Pernoi. He opened it in Birmingham, Michigan, in September 2019. He started Pernoi with Chef Luciano DelSignore.
