Takashi Yagihashi is a talented chef from Japan who lives in the United States. He is famous for his special cooking style called "fusion cuisine." This means he mixes different types of food, especially French and Asian dishes, to create exciting new flavors.
Chef Takashi's Journey
Takashi Yagihashi started his cooking career because he needed money for milk, which he says was the beginning of his passion for food.
In 1996, Takashi opened his very first restaurant named Tribute. It was a huge success! Big newspapers like the Detroit Free Press and The New York Times gave it amazing reviews, calling it one of the best restaurants around.
A few years later, in 2003, Takashi won a very important award. He was named the Best Chef in the Midwest by the James Beard Foundation. This is a big honor in the cooking world!
In 2005, he opened another restaurant called Okada in Las Vegas. At Okada, he created modern Japanese dishes, still using his unique French cooking skills. He also joined the Macy's culinary council and opened a noodle restaurant called Noodles by Takashi Yagihashi inside Macy's in Chicago.
In December 2007, he opened his own restaurant simply named Takashi in Chicago. Later, in November 2011, he opened a fun Japanese-style ramen shop called Slurping Turtle in Chicago. Ramen is a popular Japanese noodle soup. In April 2014, he opened another Slurping Turtle location in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Takashi Yagihashi has also appeared on popular TV cooking shows. In 2012, he was a contestant on Iron Chef America, where he showed off his amazing cooking skills. He also competed on Top Chef Masters (season 4) and was featured on the show Great Chefs.
In 2009, Chef Takashi shared his knowledge by publishing a book called Takashi's Noodles with Harris Salat.
His Chicago restaurant, Takashi, closed at the end of 2014. The Slurping Turtle restaurant in Chicago also closed in May 2019. However, the Slurping Turtle in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is still open, and a new location opened in Columbus, Ohio. (Takashi Yagihashi is no longer involved with Slurping Turtle since 2018).
In September 2019, Chef Yagihashi started a new cooking adventure. He opened a restaurant called Pernoi in Birmingham, Michigan, with another chef named Luciano DelSignore.
