Takatoshi Matsumoto (松本 昂聡, Matsumoto Takatoshi, born September 5, 1983) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender.

Takatoshi Matsumoto's Football Journey

Takatoshi Matsumoto was born in Minato, Tokyo, Japan, on September 5, 1983. He started his football career in the youth team of Kyoto Purple Sanga. This team plays in the J1 League, which is Japan's top professional football league.

Starting His Professional Career

In 2002, Takatoshi joined the main team of Kyoto Purple Sanga. He made his first professional appearance in October of that year. He played several matches as a central defender during the 2002 season. However, in 2003, he only played one match. At the end of the 2003 season, Kyoto Purple Sanga was moved down to the J2 League, which is the second division.

Moving to New Teams

After leaving Kyoto, Takatoshi moved to other J1 League clubs. In 2004, he joined FC Tokyo, and in 2005, he played for Vissel Kobe. Even though he was part of these teams, he did not get to play in any official matches for them.

Finding His Place at Shonan Bellmare

In 2006, Takatoshi moved to Shonan Bellmare, a team in the J2 League. Here, he finally became a regular player, meaning he played in most of the team's matches. He showed his skills as a defender. However, from 2007 onwards, his playing time started to decrease. By 2008, he hardly played at all for Shonan Bellmare.

Later Career and Retirement

In June 2008, Takatoshi moved to another J2 League team, Tokushima Vortis. He quickly became a regular player there. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury in September and could not play for the rest of the season. He left the club at the end of 2008. In September 2009, he joined MIO Biwako Kusatsu, a team in the Japan Football League. He did not play any matches for this team. Takatoshi Matsumoto decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2009 season.
