Panagiotis "Taki" Theodoracopulos (born 11 August 1936) is a Greek writer and publisher. He is known for starting Taki's Magazine and helping to create The American Conservative. His column "High Life" was featured in the British magazine The Spectator for many years. He has lived in places like New York City, London, and Gstaad.
Early Life and Education
Taki Theodoracopulos grew up as the son of a wealthy Greek shipping owner. He went to private schools in the United States, including Lawrenceville School and Blair Academy. After that, he studied at the University of Virginia.
When he was younger, Theodoracopulos was a keen sportsman. He played tennis, even competing in the French Championship in 1961. He also represented Greece in skiing at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1962.
Career as a Writer and Publisher
Theodoracopulos is well-known for his column called "High Life." This column appeared in the British weekly magazine The Spectator starting in 1977. He has also written for many other magazines and newspapers in the US and UK. These include Esquire, Hamptons Magazine, Newsweek, the New York Press, The Sunday Times, and Vanity Fair.
In 2002, Theodoracopulos helped start The American Conservative magazine with Pat Buchanan and Scott McConnell. He was also the publisher of a British magazine called Right Now! Today, he publishes and writes for his own online publication, Taki's Magazine.
Personal Interests
Theodoracopulos has a strong interest in Asian martial arts. He has achieved a black belt in karate, which shows his dedication to the sport. He also used to own a large yacht named Bushido.
