Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Talbot Badger was an English politician who lived a long time ago, around the 1600s. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government where important decisions are made. He served there in 1654.

Early Life and Education

Talbot Badger was born around the year 1621. His father was John Badger, and their family lived at a place called The Pool House in Hanley Castle, a village in Worcestershire, England. The Badger family had owned The Pool House and its lands for a long time, since the 1500s.

When he was 17 years old, Talbot Badger went to Lincoln College, Oxford, which is a famous university in England. He started his studies there on April 5, 1639.

A Career in Politics

In 1654, Talbot Badger became a Member of Parliament, often called an MP. This meant he was chosen to represent the area of Worcestershire in the government. He served in a special government assembly called the First Protectorate Parliament. This was a time when England was led by Oliver Cromwell, who was known as the Lord Protector.

Talbot Badger also had another important role in 1656. He was chosen to be an "assessment commissioner." This job involved helping to collect money for the government, like taxes, to support public services.

People who knew Talbot Badger said he was a very good person. They mentioned that "By his holy and humble life he exercised much influence for good on his neighbours." This means he was a kind and modest person who had a positive effect on the people around him.

Family Life

Talbot Badger had a daughter named Jane. She later married a man named Anthony Young, who was also from Hanley. When Jane married Anthony, The Pool House, the family home, became part of their new family.

It is thought that Talbot Badger might have been related to another person from Hanley Castle named Roland Badger.
