Talbot Yelverton (born May 2, 1690, died October 27, 1731) was an important English noble. He was a member of the House of Lords, which is part of the British Parliament. He started as the Hon. Talbot Yelverton. Later, he became the 2nd Viscount Longueville. In 1717, he was given the special title of the 1st Earl of Sussex.

Early Life and Education

Talbot Yelverton was born on May 2, 1690. His father was Henry Yelverton, who was the 1st Viscount Longueville. His mother was Barbara. She was the daughter of Sir John Talbot from a place called Lacock in Wiltshire. Talbot Yelverton went to school at Christ Church, Oxford.

Important Roles and Achievements

From 1722 to 1727, Talbot Yelverton worked for King George I. He was a "Gentleman of the Bedchamber," which meant he was a trusted assistant to the King.

In 1725, he became the Deputy Earl Marshal. This was a very important job. He was in charge of big royal ceremonies. He even led the ceremonies when King George I was crowned.

Also in 1725, he became one of the first "Knights Companion of the Order of the Bath." This is a special award given for great service. When King George II became king in 1727, Talbot Yelverton joined the Privy Council. This group advises the King or Queen.

Later Life and Family

Talbot Yelverton passed away in Bath, Somerset, on October 27, 1731. He was buried in a place called Easton Maudit in Northamptonshire.

Before 1726, he married Lucy Pelham. They had two sons together:

  • George Augustus Yelverton, 2nd Earl of Sussex (1727–1758)
  • Henry Yelverton, 3rd Earl of Sussex (1728–1799)

His older son, George, became the next Earl of Sussex after his father died.
