Talent Jumo is a teacher from Zimbabwe. She is known for helping to start and lead an organization called Katswe Sistahood. This group works to support girls and women, focusing on their rights and health. This includes helping them understand and access family planning options.
Helping Girls and Women
Talent Jumo started her career as a teacher, with a special interest in women's health. In 2005, she worked on health programs, including those related to HIV.
In 2007, Talent Jumo helped create a group called the Young Women’s Leadership Initiative. This group later became known as the Katswe Sistahood. The Katswe Sistahood works to make sure young women and girls have a voice and are treated fairly. They help girls learn about their bodies and make healthy choices.
Awards and Recognition
The Katswe Sistahood has won international awards for their important work. For example, in 2015, they were one of 20 groups to win the "With and For Girls" award.
In the same year, Talent Jumo organized a special event called the Nzwika! Girl Be Heard festival. During this festival, a request about the rights of teenage girls was given to the government of Zimbabwe.
Talent Jumo also received a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This grant supported her efforts to help people learn about and use family planning. She was also recognized by the BBC and included in their 100 Women program, which highlights inspiring women from around the world. She is also part of a global team called #teamgo, which works to stop street harassment against women.
