Tamar Ariel facts for kids
Tamar Ariel (Hebrew: תמר אריאל; born September 12, 1989 – died October 14, 2014) was a brave and determined Israeli Air Force navigator. She made history as Israel's first female pilot who was also Orthodox Jewish. Sadly, she passed away at the age of 25 during a big snowstorm in the Himalayas in 2014.

A Life of Courage and Determination
Tamar Ariel grew up in Masu'ot Yitzhak, a special kind of farming community where people work together. Her father was born on the Moshav, and her mother came from Puerto Rico. Tamar was the third of six children in her family.
Becoming a Pilot
In December 2012, Tamar graduated from the Israel Air Force (IAF) flight school. This was a huge achievement! During her training, she faced a big challenge. She had to eject from her plane, a Beechcraft T-6 Texan II. This caused her to be launched upwards very quickly, and she broke a bone in her back.
Tamar spent several months recovering. She had to wear a special elastic body cast. But even after this serious injury, she was determined to finish her training. And she did! After graduating, she flew the F-16D, a powerful fighter jet.
Flying Combat Missions
During Operation Protective Edge, Tamar showed incredible dedication. According to one of her commanders, she flew the most combat missions in her squadron. This means she was very active and important in her role as a pilot.
Tragic End in the Himalayas
In 2014, Tamar Ariel went on a vacation to the Himalayas. Sadly, she died at the age of 25 during a severe snowstorm that hit the high mountain passes. It was a tragic end to the life of a very courageous and inspiring young woman.
