Taminda is a special area in Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia. It is located in the western part of the city. Unlike other suburbs where many people live, Taminda is mostly an area for businesses and factories. This means that very few people actually live there.
What is Taminda Known For?
Taminda is mainly set up for businesses and industries. You will find many factories, warehouses, and shops here. Because of this, it is not a place where many families have homes. It is an important center for work and trade in Tamworth.
Living with the Peel River
The northern part of Taminda is a flat area next to the Peel River. This land is often used for sports fields. However, because it is so close to the river, this area can sometimes flood.
Protecting Taminda from Floods
In 1998, a big flood caused a lot of damage in Taminda. Water from the river flowed into many businesses. To help protect the area from future floods, work began in 2006 to build special walls. These walls are called 'levee banks'. They separate the sports fields and the Peel River from the businesses in Taminda. This helps keep the water away and protects buildings and property.
