He served as a top official for foreign affairs and was also the Mayor of Budavár, which is a district in Budapest. He also represented his region in the Hungarian Parliament.

Starting in Politics

In 1990, Tamás Katona became a Member of the National Assembly of Hungary. This is like being a member of parliament in other countries. He represented the Vác area. From 1990 to 1992, he also worked as the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. This job meant he helped manage Hungary's relationships with other countries.

Mayor of Budavár

Later, from 1994 to 1998, Tamás Katona became the Mayor of Budavár. This is the first district of Budapest, a very old and historic part of the city. As mayor, he was in charge of running the local government for that area.
