Tan Kah Kee MRT Station is a train station in Singapore. It is special because it's the first station named after a person! This station is named after Tan Kah Kee. He was a Chinese businessman and a kind community leader who helped many people. You can find this station close to several schools like Hwa Chong Institution, Nanyang Girls' High School, Raffles Girls' Primary School, Methodist Girls' School, and National Junior College.

How the Station Got Its Name

Before it opened, this station had a different name: Duchess. Many students from Hwa Chong Institution hoped it would be named "Hwa Chong." Other people in Singapore suggested names like Hillcrest, Watten, Namly, or Coronation.

In the end, the station was named Tan Kah Kee. This was done to honor the businessman and community leader. Tan Kah Kee was very important because he founded Hwa Chong Institution.

A Small Mix-Up

When the Downtown MRT Line Stage 2 had an open house on December 5, 2015, something interesting happened. People told the Land Transport Authority (LTA) that the Tamil translation of the station's name was incorrect. The LTA quickly apologized that evening for the mistake.
