Tanika Charles is a Canadian singer who performs soul and rhythm and blues (R&B). She became well-known after releasing her first full album, Soul Run, in 2016.

Tanika Charles's Musical Journey
Starting Out and Moving to Toronto
Tanika Charles used to live in Edmonton, Alberta. She moved to Toronto, Ontario, in the late 2000s. This move happened because she got a chance to sing backup for a band called Bedouin Soundclash.
Since then, Tanika has sung backup for many famous artists. These include Johnny Reid, Serena Ryder, and Emmanuel Jal.
Becoming a Solo Artist
Before releasing her own music, Tanika performed as a solo artist. Her stage name was Ms. Chawlz. She released her first collection of songs, called an EP, in 2010. It was titled What! What? What!?.
The Success of Soul Run
In 2015, Tanika released "Soul Run" as a preview song. This song was the title track from her upcoming album. She then released another song, "Two Steps," in April 2016.
Both songs were played a lot on CBC Radio 2. They also made it onto the Radio 2 Top 20 chart. Her full album, Soul Run, came out on May 10, 2016.
After the album's release, Tanika went on her first big concert tour. She also appeared on CBC Radio One's Q. In June 2016, Soul Run was considered for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize. In 2017, it was nominated for a Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. This is a big award in Canadian music.
Tanika on Television
Tanika Charles has also appeared on TV shows. She was a guest on CBC Kids, a show for children. She also played a lounge singer on the Global drama series Bomb Girls.
Her music has been used in many TV shows. These include HBO Canada's Less Than Kind and CBC's Workin' Moms. Her songs have also been featured on Rookie Blue, Seed, and Saving Hope.
New Music: The Gumption
In 2019, Tanika Charles released her second album. It was called The Gumption. This album was released through the record label Record Kicks.
