John Kirkland Reid (born August 21, 1973) is a Scottish-Canadian country music singer. He is known for his soulful voice and popular songs. Johnny moved from Scotland to Canada in July 1989 when he was 16 years old. His father, who was a diesel mechanic, wanted Johnny and his brother to have more opportunities.
Johnny finished high school in Brampton, Ontario, in 1992. He then went to Bishop's University in Lennoxville, Quebec, where he played football. Later, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States, to pursue his dream of making country music. He and his family still live in Nashville.
Johnny Reid has won many awards for his music. He was nominated for a Juno Award in 2008 for his album Kicking Stones. He also won Male Artist of the Year at the CCMA Awards in both 2008 and 2009. In 2010, he performed at the Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa, which were attended by the Queen and Prince Philip.

Johnny Reid's Music Journey
Early Albums and First Hits
Johnny Reid's first album, Another Day, Another Dime, came out in 1997. His second album, Johnny Reid, was released in 2000. From this album, he had a few songs that became minor hits, like "Given Up on Me" and "She Don't Wanna Hear."
In 2004, Johnny released "You Still Own Me", which was the first song from his third album, Born to Roll. This album came out in March 2005 and was very popular, reaching No. 5 on the Canadian country albums chart. "Missing an Angel" became his first song to reach the Top 10 on the charts, peaking at No. 6. Another song, "Time Flies", also made it into the Top 10. Born to Roll was a big success and was certified Gold, meaning it sold many copies.
Kicking Stones and Dance with Me
In 2007, Johnny released the song "Love Sweet Love", which was part of his album Kicking Stones. This album came out in April 2007. Many songs from this album, like the title track "Kicking Stones" and "Thank You", became Top 20 hits. "Darlin'" was another big hit, becoming his first song to reach the Top 5.
His fifth album, Dance with Me, was released in March 2009. It quickly became No. 1 on the Canadian Top Country Albums chart. Songs like "A Woman Like You" and the title track "Dance with Me" were very popular, both reaching the Top 10. Johnny also released a Christmas album called Christmas in November 2009.
More Albums and Success
In 2010, Johnny Reid joined EMI Music Canada for his next album, A Place Called Love, which was released in August 2010. The first song from this album was "Today I'm Gonna Try and Change the World".
His next album, Fire It Up, came out in 2012. The title song was released to radio in January. This album featured other Canadian singers like Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Serena Ryder. Johnny also released another Christmas album, A Christmas Gift to You, in October 2013.
In November 2015, Johnny Reid released What Love Is All About. This album included a song with Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall. The first songs from this album were "A Picture of You" and "Honey Honey".
His album Revival was released in November 2017. This album had 13 new songs and showed a more soulful side to his music. Revival was nominated for two JUNO Awards in 2018. Later that year, he released Revival Live, which was a live album recorded during his 2018 tour.
Musical Theatre Work
Johnny Reid also worked on a musical inspired by his grandmother, Maggie. The show, originally called My Bonnie Lass, was developed in Canada. It was later renamed Maggie and premiered at Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, Ontario, in 2023. It also played at other festivals and theatres. In 2024, Maggie opened in the United States at the Goodspeed Opera House.

Johnny Reid has received many awards and nominations throughout his career, especially from the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) and the Juno Awards.
- In 2005, he won Independent Song of the Year for "You Still Own Me" at the CCMA Awards.
- He won Chevy Trucks Rising Star Award and Independent Male Artist of the Year at the CCMA Awards in 2006.
- In 2008, his album Kicking Stones won Top Selling Canadian Album at the CCMA Awards, and he was named Male Artist of the Year.
- In 2009, his album Dance with Me won Album of the Year, and he won Male Artist of the Year and Fan's Choice Award at the CCMA Awards.
