Tansei facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Tansei, also known as Tonsei, was the second satellite ever launched by Japan. It was a special machine sent into space to orbit our planet.

What is Tansei?

Tansei was an artificial satellite, meaning it was made by people, not a natural object like the Moon. Its job was to fly around Earth in a path called an orbit. This satellite helped Japan learn more about sending things into space.

Japan's Space Journey

The project to launch Tansei was led by the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS). This group was part of the University of Tokyo, a famous university in Japan. They worked hard to make Japan a country that could explore space.

The name "Tansei" means "light blue" in Japanese. This color is special because it's the official color of the University of Tokyo. It was a way to show pride in their work.

Launching Tansei

Tansei was successfully sent into space on February 16, 1971. This was a big step for Japan's space program. It showed the world that Japan could build and launch its own satellites.
