Tanya Moore is a special person who works hard to help girls and women get involved in math and science. She wants more women to become scientists and mathematicians!

Tanya Moore's Education Journey

Tanya Moore studied a lot to become an expert in math and science. She earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, from Spelman College. Then, she got another degree, a Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences, from Johns Hopkins University. In 2002, she finished her highest degree, a PhD in Biostatistics, at UC Berkeley. This means she became a doctor in a field that uses math to study health and biology.

Helping Women in STEM

Tanya Moore has done many important things to support women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

Starting the Infinite Possibilities Conference

In 2005, Tanya helped start something amazing called the Infinite Possibilities Conference. This conference brings together people who want to encourage more women, especially women of color, to succeed in math.

Special Recognition and Awards

  • In 2011, Tanya was named one of the top five Black women working in STEM fields.
  • The Network of Minorities in Mathematical Sciences nominated her for Black History Month in 2018. This showed how much they appreciated her work.
  • In 2020, Tanya was featured in popular magazines like Essence Magazine and The Oprah Magazine.
  • She was also honored as "STEM Woman of the Year" by Nancy Skinner, a leader in the California State Assembly.
  • Most recently, in 2023, Tanya Moore was added to the Alameda County Women's Hall of Fame. She was recognized in the "Science, Technology and Engineering" group for her efforts to get more people involved in STEM.
