Tapalapa is a small town and a municipality in the southern part of Mexico. It is located in the Mexican state of Chiapas. A municipality is like a local government area, similar to a county or district.

Population and Size
In 2010, the total population of the Tapalapa municipality was 4,121 people. This number was a bit higher than in 2005, when there were 3,639 residents. The municipality covers an area of 32.3 square kilometers. To give you an idea, that's about 12.5 square miles.
The main town of Tapalapa had 1,940 people living there in 2010. Besides the main town, the municipality also has 17 smaller villages or communities. None of these smaller places had more than 1,000 people living in them.
