Tarazona de la Mancha is a town, also known as a municipality, in Spain. It is located in the Albacete province. This province is part of the Castile-La Mancha region. In 2011, about 6,746 people lived in Tarazona de la Mancha.

Tarazona de la Mancha is in the northern part of Albacete province. It is right on the border with Cuenca province. To the south, it shares a border with La Gineta. To the east, it borders Madrigueras.

To the west, Tarazona de la Mancha borders several towns. These include Montalvos, La Roda, Fuensanta, and Villalgordo del Júcar. To the north, it borders Quintanar del Rey and Villagarcía del Llano. These two towns are in the Cuenca province.

A Look at History

People have lived in the area of Tarazona de la Mancha for a very long time. In 1978, two archaeologists, Cayo Tomás González and Matías Muñoz, studied the area. They found signs of different ancient cultures.

Ancient Times

Their study, called "Carta arqueológica de Tarazona de la Mancha," showed many things. They found evidence of people from the Second Bronze Age. There were also signs of Iberian and Roman cultures. Later, there were remains from the Late Medieval period.

You can still see a bridge over the Valdemembra River. It was built during Roman times. Archaeologists also found parts of a Roman villa here. A villa was a large country house in Roman times.

Becoming a Village

The village of Tarazona started in the late 1400s. People from Villanueva de la Jara moved there. On October 11, 1564, Tarazona was officially recognized as a village. The important Church of San Bartolomé (Tarazona de la Mancha) was built in the 1600s.

When Spain's provinces were first created around 1710, Tarazona was part of Cuenca province. Later, in 1833, it was moved to the Albacete province.
