About Tata Giacobetti
Tata Giacobetti was a talented musician who taught himself how to play. He learned to play both the bass and the piano. He started singing at student parties while he was studying scenography (which is the art of designing sets for plays and movies) at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma in Rome.
Forming Quartetto Cetra
In 1940 and 1941, Tata helped start a singing group called Quartetto Egie. This group changed its members and its name a couple of times. First, it became Quartetto Ritmo, and then it finally became the famous Quartetto Cetra.
A Long Career in Entertainment
As part of Quartetto Cetra, Tata Giacobetti had a very long career in entertainment, lasting over forty years! He was not only a singer but also an actor. He performed on the radio, on stage (in theaters), on TV, in movies, and even in advertising.
Writing Songs
Besides singing, Tata Giacobetti was the main lyricist for the group. A lyricist is someone who writes the words for songs. He often worked with Virgilio Savona, who wrote the music. Together, they created hundreds of songs. These songs made up the huge collection of music that Quartetto Cetra performed.
Tata Giacobetti also wrote lyrics for other Italian musicians. Some of these included Gorni Kramer, Giovanni D'Anzi, and Armando Trovajoli.
