Tatsuya Murata (村田 達哉, Murata Tatsuya, born August 8, 1972) is a Japanese former football player and manager. He was born in Tokyo, Japan, on August 8, 1972. Tatsuya Murata played as a defender during his career. As of July 2025, he is the assistant manager for the Japan Football League club Briobecca Urayasu.

Tatsuya Murata's Playing Career

Tatsuya Murata started his football journey in 1990. He joined the youth team of Yomiuri, which later became Verdy Kawasaki. Even though he was part of the team, he didn't get to play in any official matches for the top team during his early years.

In 1995, Murata moved to Toshiba, a club that later changed its name to Consadole Sapporo. Here, he became a regular player, often playing as a left-sided defender. His team had great success in 1997, winning the championship and moving up to the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league. However, they were relegated back to the J2 League after just one year. By 2000, Murata's playing time at Consadole Sapporo became less frequent.

He then joined another J2 club, Vegalta Sendai, in 2001. At Vegalta Sendai, he once again became a key player. His strong performance helped the club get promoted to the J1 League at the end of the 2001 season. In 2003, he found himself playing less often and moved to Omiya Ardija in June of that year. He returned to Vegalta Sendai in 2004 but decided to retire from playing football at the end of that season. Throughout his career, Tatsuya Murata played in 202 league matches and scored 5 goals.

Becoming a Football Coach

After retiring as a player in 2004, Tatsuya Murata didn't leave football. He moved to Italy in 2005 to become a coach for ChievoVerona. He mostly worked with their youth teams until 2007, helping young players develop their skills.

In 2008, Murata came back to Japan. He rejoined his former club, Consadole Sapporo. In this role, he worked as a scout, looking for new talent, and also as a coach for the main team. In 2014, he took on a new challenge, moving to L.League club Nippon TV Beleza to become a coach. Later that year, in September 2014, he moved to Tokyo Verdy, another one of his old clubs, and served as a coach there until 2016.

He returned to Nippon TV Beleza in 2017. In 2018, Tatsuya Murata became a manager for the first time, leading the Japan Football League club Cobaltore Onagawa. He is currently the assistant manager for Briobecca Urayasu.
