How Tavalon Tea Started
Tavalon Tea was started in 2005 by a person named John-Paul Lee. Before starting Tavalon, John-Paul was a business consultant. While he was living in Europe, he noticed how much tea people drank there. This was a big surprise to him, especially since in America, coffee was much more popular.
When he came back to the United States, John-Paul had an idea about tea. He shared this idea with his friend, Sonny Caberwal. They both saw that there wasn't a lot of fancy tea available in the U.S. After three years of planning, they both left their jobs to create Tavalon Tea.
John-Paul and Sonny opened their first Tavalon Tea Bar in Union Square Park in Manhattan. In 2008, a magazine called Imbibe said Tavalon Tea Bar was the number one thing they loved about tea. Today, Tavalon Tea's main office is in New York, New York. They also have a website where people can buy their teas online. These online orders are sent from their warehouse in South Hackensack, New Jersey.

You can find Tavalon Tea in over 8,500 fancy restaurants, hotels, spas, and companies around the world. Some well-known places include Bloomingdale's, the Plaza Hotel, Le Meridien, Morimoto, Goldman Sachs, JPMorganChase, Grand Hyatt, and Ritz Carlton.
In 2008, Tavalon Tea started to expand internationally. They opened their first office outside the U.S. in Seoul, South Korea. Since then, Tavalon has opened more offices in places like Dubai, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Beijing.
In 2017, Tavalon Tea opened its first fine-dining restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. This restaurant is called MajesTEA Tavalon Tea Lounge. It serves special dishes that use tea ingredients. A tea expert, called a Tea Sommelier, finds these ingredients from all over the world.
