About Tavalon Tea
Tavalon Tea was started by John-Paul Lee in 2005. Before starting Tavalon, Lee worked as a consultant. He was surprised by how much tea people drank in Europe. When he returned to the United States, he shared his idea with his friend, Sonny Caberwal.
They both noticed that there weren't many fancy tea options in the U.S. After three years of planning, they left their jobs. They decided to create Tavalon Tea.
First Tea Bar
Lee and Caberwal opened their first Tavalon Tea Bar in Union Square Park in Manhattan. In January 2008, Tavalon Tea Bar was named the top reason in a tea survey by Imbibe Magazine. Tavalon Tea's main office is in New York, New York. They also have a warehouse in South Hackensack, New Jersey, where they ship online orders.
Where to Find Tavalon Tea
Today, you can find Tavalon Tea in over 8,500 fancy restaurants, hotels, spas, and businesses worldwide. Some well-known places include Bloomingdale's, the Plaza Hotel, Le Meridien, Goldman Sachs, and the Ritz Carlton.
Tavalon Around the World
Tavalon Tea started selling internationally in 2008. Their first office outside the U.S. opened in Seoul, South Korea. Since then, Tavalon has opened offices in many other places. These include Los Angeles, Dubai, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Beijing.
In 2017, Tavalon Tea opened its first fancy restaurant in Seoul, South Korea. It's called MajesTEA Tavalon Tea Lounge. This restaurant serves dishes that use tea ingredients. A Tea Sommelier, who is an expert in tea, finds these ingredients from all over the world.
