Taxali Gate (also known as Taxali Darwaza) was a famous old gate in the Walled City of Lahore, Pakistan. It was one of many gates that once protected the city. Sadly, this gate no longer stands today.
History of Taxali Gate
The Taxali Gate was built a long time ago, between 1575 and 1585. This was during the rule of a powerful king named Akbar. He was a Mughal emperor.
What "Taxali" Means
The word "Taxali" comes from "Taxal," which means a "royal mint." A royal mint is a place where coins are made for the king or queen. This suggests that the area around the gate might have been used for making money.
Life Around the Gate
Even though the gate is gone, the area around where it stood is still busy. There is a famous shoe market there called Sheikhupurian Bazaar.
You can also find many special foods in this area. One of the most famous dishes is Sri Pai from a place known as Phajja. There are also popular sweet shops like Taj Mahal and Shahabuddin Halwai.
The Taxali Gate area is part of a local administrative division in Lahore. It is located in the Ravi area of Lahore City.
