Early Life and Training
Ted Mosby was born in 1949. When he grew up, he decided to train for a special role in the church. He studied at a place called St John's College, Morpeth. This training helped him prepare to become a church leader.
Becoming a Church Leader
In 1981, Ted Mosby became a "deacon," which is an early step in becoming a church minister. The very next year, in 1982, he became a "priest." Both of these important events happened at the All Souls' and St Bartholomew's Cathedral on Thursday Island. This church is part of the Diocese of Carpentaria.
Serving His Community
Ted Mosby spent his whole career working in the Torres Strait Islands and the nearby Cape York Peninsula. He became the main minister for the Cathedral church on Thursday Island. He was dedicated to serving the people in his community.
A Leader for His People
In 1996, there was a discussion about joining two church areas, called "dioceses," together. One was the Carpentaria diocese, and the other was North Queensland. Ted Mosby felt strongly that the Torres Strait Islands should have their own separate church area.
Accepting a New Role
Even though he preferred the Torres Strait Islands to be separate, Ted Mosby accepted a new job in 1997. He became an assistant bishop for the Torres Strait Region. This meant he would help lead the church in that area.
Becoming a Bishop
On September 29, 1997, Ted Mosby was officially made a bishop. This was a very important moment for him and his community. There were different ideas among the people about how the church should be organized. Many people in the islands hoped to have their own separate church diocese. Also, the local church leaders had some concerns about his appointment. Despite these different views, Ted Mosby took on his new role to serve his people.
