Tedd Arnold, born on January 20, 1949, in Elmira, New York, is a famous American writer and illustrator of children's books. He has created more than 100 books for young readers.

Tedd Arnold has won several awards, including the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor. He received this award for his popular books Hi! Fly Guy! (2006), I Spy Fly Guy (2010), and Noodleheads See the Future (2018). Today, he lives in Florida, near Gainesville.

Tedd Arnold's Journey to Writing

Tedd Arnold studied at the University of Florida, where he earned a degree in Fine Arts. Before he started writing children's books, he worked as a commercial illustrator. This means he created pictures for advertisements and other businesses.

He met his wife, Carol, in Florida. Carol used to be a kindergarten teacher. She encouraged him to combine his art skills with writing stories for kids. Tedd Arnold's own sons were even the inspiration for some of his characters and story ideas!

  • Huggly - A sweet and a bit clumsy green monster with a yellow tummy. He's the main character of The Monster Under the Bed series. He was born on June 17.
  • Booter - A purple monster and Huggly's best female friend. She has light purple scales and a yellow tummy. Booter is very kind and sometimes quite energetic. She was born on January 9.
  • Grubble - An orange monster who is Huggly's male best friend. He has magenta hair and a yellow tummy. Grubble can be a little nervous or focused on how he looks. He was born on September 28.

Awards and Recognitions

Tedd Arnold's first book, No Jumping on the Bed!, was very successful. It was chosen as an IRA-CBC Children's Choice book. Parents Magazine also picked it as one of the "50 All-Time Best Children's Books."

He has won the American Library Association's Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor three times. This award celebrates books for beginning readers. He won for Hi! Fly Guy, I Spy Fly Guy, and Noodleheads See the Future.
