The Story of Teddington Methodist Church
The history of Teddington Methodist Church goes back many years. The very first Methodist church in Teddington was built in 1859. It was located on Clarence Road. This original building was later known as Craig Hall. Today, it has been turned into homes.
A New Start and a Challenge
A new church building was opened on the current site in 1879. This new church served the community for many years. However, during the Second World War, a bomb hit the building in 1944. This caused a lot of damage, and the church had to be taken down.
Rebuilding for the Future
After the war, the community worked to rebuild their church. The current church building was completed and opened in 1952. This means the church you see today has been standing for over 70 years. It continues to be an important part of Teddington.
What Happens at the Church
Teddington Methodist Church is more than just a place for Sunday services. It is a lively centre for the whole community.
Worship and Services
The church's Minister is Rev David Innes. People gather for worship services every week. These services are held on Sunday mornings and Sunday evenings. The church also shares news and updates in its newsletter, called Focus. This newsletter comes out three times a year.
A Hub for the Community
The church has several halls and a main worship area. These spaces are used by many different local groups. They host a variety of community activities throughout the week. For example, "Teddington Voluntary Care" has its main office in one of the rooms. This shows how the church helps people in the area.
