Early Life and First Steps in Music
Tewodros Kassahun Germamo was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His birthday is July 14, 1976. His father, Kassahun Germamo, was a singer and songwriter. His mother, Tilaye Arage, was a dancer. Music was a big part of his family life from the start.
First Albums and Growing Fame
Teddy Afro released his first album, Abugida, in 2001. This quickly made him a well-known artist in Ethiopia. His music mixes reggae, traditional Ethiopian styles, and pop. In 2002, his second album, Teddy, was released. He had actually finished this album in 2000.
His third album, Yasteseryal, came out in 2005. This album became very popular and also caused much discussion. Some of its songs talked about important issues in Ethiopia. Because of this, four of his songs were not allowed on Ethiopian media for a while. This changed in April 2018. After that, he could perform these songs in big concerts. After his early success, Teddy Afro released Tikur Sew on April 14, 2012. This album honored Emperor Menelik II. It also celebrated the Battle of Adwa. This was a famous battle where Ethiopian forces fought against the Italian Empire in 1896. Tikur Sew became one of the most popular albums in Ethiopia. It sold many copies.
On August 22, 2014, Teddy released the song "Be 70 Dereja." Its music video showed black-and-white scenes from Ethiopia in the 1970s. It featured many famous places. This video was watched millions of times online.
His fifth album, Ethiopia, was released on May 2, 2017. It quickly became very successful. It even reached the top of the Billboard World Albums chart. By then, it had sold more than 600,000 copies.

On February 22, 2020, Teddy Afro held a huge concert in Addis Ababa. It was called Adwa! Wede Fikir Guzo. A record number of people attended.
On August 3, 2020, he released "Demo Be Abay." This song is about the Abbay River, also known as the Blue Nile River. The song talks about the importance of the river to Ethiopia.
