The Story of Teem Soda
Before it was called Teem, the drink had a different name. It was first known as "Duet." But there was a problem with this name. Another company, Swift's, already made a margarine called "Duet." To avoid any issues, Pepsi changed the name.
Teem's First Appearance
On April 10, 1959, Teem was introduced to the public. Three Pepsi-Cola workers from different cities met in St. Joseph, Missouri. This city was chosen to be the first place to try Teem. A few days later, ads for Teem appeared in local newspapers. The drink was then sold in stores.
When Teem Left the U.S.
Teem was sold in the United States and Canada for many years. However, its sales started to drop. Because of this, Pepsi stopped selling Teem in these countries in 1984. A new lemon-lime drink called Slice took its place. Even after 1984, you could still find Teem at some soda fountains. Later, Sierra Mist became Pepsi's main lemon-lime soda in the U.S.
Teem Around the World
Even though Teem is gone from the U.S., it is still sold in some countries. You can find Teem today in places like Brazil, Uruguay, and South Africa. It was also sold in India and Pakistan for a while. In many other countries, Pepsi replaced Teem with 7 Up in the 1990s.
