Slice is a brand of soft drinks that comes in many fruit flavors. It was first made by PepsiCo in 1984. Slice was created to replace another drink called Teem.

PepsiCo stopped selling Slice in North America in the late 2000s. However, a company called "New Slice Ventures LLC" bought the rights to the name. They brought Slice back to the United States and Canada as a brand of organic juices.

PepsiCo also brought Slice back in India in 2008. There, it is a mango-flavored fruit drink. It is now known as Tropicana Slice.

History of Slice Drinks

The first Lemon Lime Slice drink came out in 1984. It was meant to compete with popular drinks like Sprite and 7-Up. What made Slice special back then was that it contained 10% real fruit juice.

In 1985, a diet version of Slice was released. The next year, in 1986, more flavors were added. These included Mandarin Orange, Apple, and Cherry Cola. Diet versions of these new flavors were also available. During this time, the ads for Slice used the catchy slogan "We got the juice."

Early Success and Changes

Slice was very popular when it first came out. Its success inspired other companies to add juice to their drinks. For example, Coca-Cola made Minute Maid orange soda. By May 1987, Slice made up 3.2% of all soft drink sales.

However, Slice's popularity started to drop. By June 1988, its sales were less than 2%. Around this time, the amount of juice in Slice was reduced. The packaging changed from "10% fruit juices" to "with fruit juices." The slogan also changed to "Either you got it or you don't." The Apple and Cherry Cola flavors were stopped.

New Flavors and Designs

By 1990, Slice drinks no longer contained any fruit juice. The cans and bottles got a new look. More new flavors were added, like Strawberry, Pineapple, Fruit Punch, and Grape. These flavors were similar to those offered by other brands like Crush.

In the early 1990s, Slice ads featured a cartoon character named Fido Dido. This character was also used for 7-Up in some countries. Lemon Lime Slice used the slogan "Clearly the One" during this time.

The first Slice cans were a solid color matching the drink's flavor. In 1994, they changed to black cans with colorful designs. More new flavors came out, including Dr Slice, which was like Dr Pepper. In 1997, the cans became blue with swirly designs. The Mandarin Orange flavor was changed to "Orange Citrus" and had the slogan "It's orange, only twisted." Later, it was simply called Orange Slice.

Slice is Replaced

In the summer of 2000, Sierra Mist replaced lemon-lime Slice in most places. Sierra Mist became a national brand in 2003. By 2005, most other Slice flavors were replaced by Tropicana Twister Soda.

In early 2006, Pepsi brought back the Slice name for a new line of diet sodas called Slice ONE. These were sold only at Walmart stores. Slice ONE came in orange, grape, and berry flavors. They were sweetened with Splenda. By 2009, Slice (orange, diet orange, grape, strawberry, and peach) was still only sold at Walmart.

Slice in India and Its Return to the US

Slice was launched in India in 1993 as a mango-flavored drink. It quickly became very popular there. In India, the famous Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif promotes Slice Mango. Slice mango is also sold in Pakistan.

PepsiCo stopped selling Slice in the United States sometime between the late 2000s and early 2010s. It was no longer listed on PepsiCo’s website.
