Early Life and College Soccer
Tegan McGrady grew up in San Jose, California. She went to Santa Teresa High School, where she was a talented athlete. She played not only soccer but also track and field and tennis.
During her time in high school, Tegan faced a challenge. She was temporarily not allowed to play in some high school soccer games. This happened because she took part in special training camps with the United States women's national soccer team. These camps were not approved by the high school sports rules at the time.
After high school, Tegan went to Stanford University. She played for the Stanford Cardinal women's soccer team. In 2017, her team won the national championship, which is a huge achievement in college soccer!
Professional Soccer Career
Washington Spirit Team
In 2019, Tegan McGrady was chosen by the Washington Spirit team in the 2019 NWSL College Draft. This draft is where professional teams pick college players to join their clubs. She signed her first professional contract on March 4, 2019.
Her first year with the Spirit was a bit tough because of injuries. She played in 6 games, starting 5 of them.
In 2020, the soccer season was shorter due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Tegan started in all five games for the Spirit during the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. She later missed some games that year because of a foot injury. In October 2020, the Spirit signed her to a new contract.
San Diego Wave FC Team
Before the 2022 season, Tegan joined San Diego Wave FC. This was a new team in the league. She played in 10 games for them.
Portland Thorns FC Team
On July 25, 2022, Tegan moved to the Portland Thorns FC team. She was part of a player trade between Portland and San Diego. With the Thorns, she helped her team win the NWSL Championship in 2022.
Dijon FCO Team
In July 2024, Tegan McGrady signed with Dijon FCO. This team plays in France's top women's soccer league.
