The Tel Aviv Cinematheque, also known as the Doron Cinema Center, is a special place in Tel Aviv where people can watch movies and where old films are kept safe. It first opened its doors on May 12, 1973.

You can find the Cinematheque at 5 HaArba'a Street. It has five different rooms where movies are shown. The Cinematheque plays all kinds of movies, from films made in Israel to ones from other countries. They also host private events, which helps them keep the center running. Sometimes, they even show brand new Israeli movies before they are widely released.

What exciting events happen here?

The Tel Aviv Cinematheque is famous for hosting many film festivals. Some of these include TLVFest, the "Doc Aviv" Documentary Film Festival, and "Moments of French Cinema." There's even an Australian Film Festival! These festivals often get help from groups like the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

The main lobby of the Cinematheque often has cool photo exhibitions by artists from Israel. The center also publishes its own magazine about movies, called "Cinematheque."

When was the current building built?

The building you see today was designed by an Israeli architect named Salo Hershman. It was opened in 1989.

What is the Israeli Cinema Center?

In September 2011, the Israel Cinema Center opened right next to the Cinematheque. This new part is much bigger, about three times the size of the original building! It has three more movie theaters, offices, a library full of books about movies, and even a restaurant. Just like the first building, this new section was also designed by Salo Hershman.
