Temperanceville, Ohio facts for kids
Temperanceville is a small, unincorporated community located in Belmont County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
History of Temperanceville
Temperanceville began its story in 1837. That year, a special kind of mill called a gristmill was built there. A gristmill is a place where grain, like wheat or corn, is ground into flour.
The person who owned this mill had very strong beliefs about living a healthy and disciplined life. These ideas were known as "temperance principles." Because of these beliefs, the community was named Temperanceville.
Later, in 1848, a post office opened in Temperanceville. It helped people send and receive letters and packages for many years, until it closed in 1961.
