About the Tennille Woman's Club

The Tennille Women's Club started in 1914. At first, it was a sewing club. Soon, the club began to work on projects to help their town. These were called civic projects.

Becoming an Official Club

In 1920, the club became an official organization. This meant they could do more for the community. They joined bigger groups like the Georgia Federation of Woman's Clubs. They also joined the General Federation of Women's Clubs.

In 1921, the club officially connected with state and national programs. To do this, they had to show they were not involved in politics. They also had to prove they were not connected to any specific religion. Their main goal was to make their community better. In 1998, the club was still active with about 40 members.

The Clubhouse Building

A Place for Learning

The south room of the clubhouse was very important. It was the first home of the public library in Washington County. This library was supported by the community. Later, the library moved to a different location.
