About the Tera River
The Tera River stretches for about 140 kilometers (87 miles). It starts high up in the mountains and flows until it joins the Esla River near a town called Bretocino. The area that collects water for the Tera River, known as its basin, covers about 2,412 square kilometers (931 square miles).
Nature and Wildlife
The Tera River is very important for nature. It is home to many different kinds of plants and animals. In fact, 24 species that are protected by the European Union's nature rules live here. This means the river is a special place for wildlife.
Because of its importance, a large part of the river and its smaller branches was named a Special Area of Conservation in 2015. This special title helps protect the river's environment. It ensures that the plants and animals living there can thrive.
