The Territory of Missouri was a territory of the United States from June 4, 1812 to August 10, 1821. In 1819, the Arkansas Territory was created from a portion of its southern area. In 1821, a southeastern part of the territory became part of the Union as the State of Missouri, and the rest became unorganized territory for several years.
St. Louis was the capital of the Missouri Territory.
