Early Life and Moving to New York
Terry Haass was born Theresa Goldmannová. Her birthday was November 17, 1923. She was born in a place called Český Těšín, in Czechoslovakia.
In 1938, her family had to leave their home. They moved to Paris, France. This was because of unfair treatment against Jewish people. Later, in 1941, they had to move again. They left Paris because of the Nazi invasion. They found a new home in New York, USA. She married Walter Haass around this time. They later separated.
Art Training and Exhibitions
In New York, Terry Haass studied art. She went to the Art Students League of New York. She also attended a special art workshop called Atelier 17.
In 1951, Terry Haass became a co-director. She helped run the New York branch of Atelier 17. She worked with another artist named Harry Hoehn. By the end of that year, Haass moved back to Paris.
Her art was shown in important places. In 1952, she had her own show. This was at the Smithsonian Institution. In 1953, her work was part of a big exhibition. It was called "Young American Printmakers." This show was at the Museum of Modern Art.
Life in Paris
Terry Haass continued to live and work in Paris. She became a French citizen in 1963. She lived there for many years. Terry Haass passed away on March 1, 2016. She died in Paris, France.
