Teruo Iwamoto (岩本 輝雄, Iwamoto Teruo, born May 2, 1972) is a former Japanese football player. He was a midfielder, which means he played in the middle of the field. He also played for the Japan national team.

Playing for Clubs

Teruo Iwamoto was born in Yokohama, Japan, on May 2, 1972. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career.

Early Days and First Wins

In 1991, Iwamoto joined a team called Fujita Industries. This team later changed its name to Bellmare Hiratsuka, which is now known as Shonan Bellmare.

In 1994, his team, Bellmare Hiratsuka, won the 1994 Emperor's Cup. This is a very important football competition in Japan. The next year, in 1995, they also won the 1995 Asian Cup Winners' Cup. This was a big win for them in Asia.

After these big wins, Teruo Iwamoto faced some challenges. He had some injuries that made it hard for him to play regularly.

Moving to New Teams

In the late 1990s, Iwamoto played for several different teams. In 1998, he joined Kyoto Purple Sanga. The next year, 1999, he played for Kawasaki Frontale. In 2000, he moved to Verdy Kawasaki.

In 2001, he joined Vegalta Sendai. Here, he became a key player for the team. He was known for helping his teammates score many goals.

Playing Abroad and Retirement

In 2004, Iwamoto moved to Nagoya Grampus Eight. However, he got injured in May of that year. He left the club at the end of the season.

In October 2006, he signed with Auckland City, a team in New Zealand. He played for them until December of that year. In December, he also played in the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan. This was a big international tournament.

Teruo Iwamoto decided to retire from playing football after the 2006 Club World Cup.

Playing for Japan

Teruo Iwamoto also played for the Japan national football team. His first game for Japan was on May 22, 1994, against Australia.

He also played in the 1994 Asian Games. In this tournament, he wore the number 10 jersey for Japan. This number is often given to a team's main playmaker.
