Teruyoshi Ito (伊東 輝悦, Itō Teruyoshi, born 31 August 1974) is a famous former Japanese footballer. He played as a midfielder, which means he helped both defense and attack on the field. Ito is well-known for his very long career, especially with the club Shimizu S-Pulse.

Club Career Highlights
Teruyoshi Ito was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on August 31, 1974. After finishing high school, he joined the J1 League club Shimizu S-Pulse in 1993. This club was based in his hometown.
Becoming a Star Player
Ito started playing for Shimizu S-Pulse in June 1994. From 1995, he became a regular player in the midfield. He was a key player for the club for many years.
In 1996, Shimizu S-Pulse won the J.League Cup. This was the first major title for the club. In 1999, his team finished second in the J1 League. Ito was also chosen for the "Best Eleven" award that year, which means he was one of the best players in the league.
Winning More Trophies
Shimizu S-Pulse continued to succeed. In 2000, they won an Asian title, the 1999–2000 Asian Cup Winners' Cup. The next year, in 2001, they won the Emperor's Cup.
Even when the team had some tough years, Ito kept playing strongly. In 2005, his former teammate Kenta Hasegawa became the new manager. Under Hasegawa, the team improved a lot. In 2008, Shimizu S-Pulse finished second in the 2008 J.League Cup. Ito played in every J1 League match from 2006 to 2008. He also received a fair play award in 2007. His time at Shimizu S-Pulse ended in 2010.
Later Career Teams
In 2011, Ito moved to Ventforet Kofu, another J1 League club. On July 16, 2011, he made history by becoming the first player to play 500 matches in the J1 League.
Ventforet Kofu was relegated to the J2 League in 2012. However, they quickly won the J2 League championship and returned to J1 the next year. Ito played fewer matches in 2013 and left the club at the end of that year.
After Ventforet Kofu, he played for AC Nagano Parceiro in the J3 League from 2014 to 2015. Then, in 2016, he joined Blaublitz Akita, also in the J3 League. In 2017, he moved to Azul Claro Numazu, another J3 club. He made his debut for Azul Claro Numazu in 2019, coming on as a substitute in a 3–1 win.
International Career
Teruyoshi Ito also played for Japan's national football teams.
Playing for Japan U23
In July 1996, Ito was chosen for the Japan U23 national team. He played in the 1996 Summer Olympics. He played all three matches for the team.
He is most famous for scoring a goal against Brazil in Atlanta. Japan won that match 1–0, which was a huge surprise. This famous victory is known as the "Miracle of Miami" in Japan.
Playing for the Senior National Team
Ito played 27 matches for the Japan national team between 1997 and 2001. He was also part of the team for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, though he did not play in any matches during the tournament.
