Blaublitz Akita (ブラウブリッツ秋田) is a professional association football team from Akita, Japan. The club plays in the J2 League, which is the second highest professional football league in Japan. The team was once owned by a company called TDK, and many players used to work at TDK's Akita factory.

Club History

The club started in 1965 in Nikaho, Akita. They moved up to the Tohoku Regional League in 1982. They even played in the Japan Soccer League Division 2 in 1985 and 1986. At that time, they were the only club from the Tohoku region to play in the JSL.

In 2006, they won the Tohoku Regional League championship for the fifth year in a row! This win helped them get promoted to the Japan Football League.

In 2009, TDK announced that the football club would become its own independent team. In 2010, the club changed its name to "Blaublitz Akita". The words Blau and Blitz come from German. Blau means blue, and Blitz means lightning.

In 2014, Blaublitz Akita joined the J3 League. This is the third tier of professional football in Japan. They finished 8th in their first two years in this league. In 2017, they won the J3 League title! However, they could not move up to a higher league because they didn't have the right license. They were the first J3 champion not to get promoted.

But Blaublitz Akita didn't give up! They got their J2 license on September 27, 2018. Then, in 2020, they won the J3 League title again! This time, they were promoted to the J2 League, returning to the second tier after 34 years.

Home Stadium

Blaublitz Akita plays its home games at Soyu Stadium. This stadium is also known as "Yabase" and can hold 20,125 fans. It is the oldest stadium still used in the J.League. The team also trains at nearby facilities like Akita Sports Plus ASP Stadium and Space Project Dream Field.
