Teton, South Dakota facts for kids
Teton is a small place in Stanley County, in the U.S. state of South Dakota. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes or buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's usually managed by the county it's in.
How Teton Got Its Name
The name "Teton" comes from the Teton Sioux Indian Tribe. The Teton Sioux are a large group of Native American people who have lived in the Great Plains region, including parts of South Dakota, for a very long time. They are well-known for their rich history and culture. The community was named to honor this important tribe.
