Tetsuya Asano (浅野 哲也, Asano Tetsuya, born February 23, 1967) is a Japanese professional football manager and former player. He is currently the head coach for the Kagoshima United FC football club. Asano also played for the Japan national team during his playing career.

Playing Career: A Midfielder's Journey

Tetsuya Asano was born in Hokota, Japan, on February 23, 1967. After finishing high school, he started his professional football journey.

Early Club Days

Asano joined the Toyota Motors club in 1987. This team later became known as Nagoya Grampus Eight. In 1992, a new football league called the J1 League was created in Japan.

Success with Nagoya Grampus Eight

In 1994, Asano played for Urawa Reds for a short time on loan. He then returned to Nagoya Grampus Eight. With this team, he helped them win the Emperor's Cup twice. They won it in 1995 and again in 1999. These were big achievements for the club.

Later Years as a Player

Towards the end of his playing career, Asano played for two other clubs. He was with FC Tokyo in 2000 and Kawasaki Frontale in 2001. He officially retired from playing football in 2001.

Representing Japan: National Team Appearances

Tetsuya Asano also had the honor of playing for his country. He joined the Japan national team.

International Debut

His first game for Japan was on June 2, 1991, against Thailand. He played a total of 8 games for the national team. During these games, he scored 1 goal for Japan. His time with the national team lasted until 1994.

Coaching Career: Leading Teams

After retiring as a player, Tetsuya Asano decided to become a football coach. He started his coaching career in 2007.

First Coaching Roles

Asano began coaching at Shonan Bellmare in 2007. He then moved to Avispa Fukuoka in 2010. In August 2011, he became the manager of Avispa Fukuoka. However, the club was moved down to the J2 League, and he left at the end of that season.

Managing Different Leagues

In 2013, Asano took on a new challenge. He became the manager for Iga FC Kunoichi, a women's football club in the L.League. He managed them until September 2014. In 2015, he joined Kagoshima United FC, which was in the Japan Football League at the time. Under his leadership, the club finished in 4th place in 2015. This result helped them get promoted to the J3 League.

Recent Coaching Positions

In 2017, Asano moved to another J3 League club, AC Nagano Parceiro. He managed this team until June 2018. In May 2024, Tetsuya Asano returned to manage Kagoshima United FC. He took over the role from the previous manager, Yasuaki Oshima.
